Matlock Software Development is a one-person software studio based in Lenoir City, Tennessee. I build custom web applications, e-commerce platforms, and internal tools for businesses across East Tennessee and beyond.
It is deliberately a studio of one. I am the developer on every project from kickoff to deploy — no subcontractors, no offshoring, no surprises about who is actually writing your code.

I am Lane Matlock, founder of Matlock Software Development in Lenoir City, Tennessee. I spent years running production for a construction company, where the job was simple to describe and hard to do: keep the schedule honest, keep the quality high, and answer the phone when something goes wrong. I taught myself to build software the same way, at night and on weekends, until it stopped being a side project and became the business.

A narrow stack, used deeply
Most agencies pick a different stack for every project — whatever is trending or whatever the client requested. I do the opposite. Every project runs on the same five tools: one framework, one database, one payments provider, one email service, one host. Five years from now, I will still know exactly how your codebase works.
Project-based, not hourly
Hourly billing rewards slowness and punishes efficiency. I quote a fixed price for the project upfront, so you know exactly what you are paying before I start writing code. Every Project is different. Every Project is scoped before development begins, typical projects start around $500-$15,000+
Built to be maintained
Most software does not fail at launch — it fails 18 months later when nobody can figure out how to update it. Everything I ship is documented, tested where it counts, and built so the next developer (me, you, or someone else) can pick it up without a forensic investigation.
