E-Commerce

- How much does custom software cost?
- Websites and web apps typically run $500–$15,000+. Custom applications and SaaS MVPs run $2,500–$50,000+. Every project is quoted as a fixed price before any code is written — never hourly — so you know the number before you commit. Tell me what you are building and I will send a real quote within one business day.
- Do you charge hourly or by the project?
- By the project. Hourly billing rewards slowness and punishes efficiency, so I quote a fixed price upfront based on scope. If the scope changes mid-project, we agree on the new number before I build it.
- Who actually writes the code?
- I do. Matlock Software Development is a one-person studio — no subcontractors, no offshoring, and no hand-off between the person who sold the project and the person who builds it. The developer you talk to on the first call is the developer who ships it.
- What kinds of software do you build?
- Three kinds, mostly: custom web applications (full stack, including database, payments, and auth), custom e-commerce storefronts with their own admin panels, and internal tools like dashboards and client portals that replace spreadsheets and manual workflows.
- Can you replace our Shopify store with something custom?
- Yes, and it is worth doing once you have more than about a hundred products, run live sales, need custom shipping rules, or have hit the ceiling of your plan. I built exactly that for Pretty Penny Boutique: a custom storefront, live sales manager, invoicing, and an admin panel their team runs without a developer.
- What happens after launch?
- Every project includes 90 days of post-launch support. After that, optional monthly care plans cover managed hosting, uptime monitoring, backups, security patches, and ongoing development — handled by the same developer who wrote the code.
- Do you work with businesses outside East Tennessee?
- Yes. I am based in Lenoir City and meet in person around the Knoxville area when it helps, but the work itself is remote-friendly and I take projects from anywhere in the United States.
